What Dental Services Does Medicaid Cover for Adults in Louisiana?
Louisiana Medicaid offers some dental coverage for adults age 21 and older, but benefits depend on your program and health plan. State coverage includes an Adult Denture Program, and some Medicaid health plans offer extra benefits for exams, cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and extractions.

What Dental Services Are Covered for Adults 21 and Older?
For most adults, Louisiana's standard Medicaid dental benefit is more limited than the dental coverage available to children. The state Adult Denture Program can help eligible adults with dentures and related services, including certain denture repairs and relines.
Some Healthy Louisiana health plans also offer extra adult dental benefits. Depending on your plan, these may include:

These extra benefits are not the same for every Medicaid health plan and can change from year to year. For example, Aetna Better Health of Louisiana currently offers up to $600 per year toward certain adult dental services, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana offers up to $750 in 2026, and Humana Healthy Horizons offers up to $500.

Who Qualifies for Comprehensive Adult Dental Coverage?
Some adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities can get more complete dental coverage through Louisiana Medicaid's Adult Waiver Dental Program.

Residential Options Waiver
Supports Waiver
Coverage can include preventive care, fillings, root canals, treatment for gum problems, dentures, oral surgery, and other medically necessary dental services.

Start with your Louisiana Medicaid dental plan or health plan to find a dentist who takes your coverage. Louisiana Medicaid uses DentaQuest and MCNA Dental for its state dental benefits.
